Dyan Reaveley is our instructor for our Silhouette Lesson at Wanderlust this week.
She taught us about the power of using 3 or 5 elements in your designs ... how she thinks about her color families of warm and cold (and how purple is the exception color) and the power of adding black to make it all come together.
It started with a three color palette (florescent orange & yellow together with red for me) and painting with a baby wipe. it made for quick and perfectly messy application.
Next we used those same three colors and a sponge applicator to stencil. I used Michelle Ward's exclusive to Ink Pad NYC Hexagon stencil in yellow; Dylusions Diamonds Are Foreverl Stencil in Orange; and StencilGirl Fade Horizontal also by Michelle Ward for the dots.
I didn't have the Dylusions Stencil or Mask that Diane Used, so I tried to stamp a silhouette lady from my stash using Staz-On Ink. Unfortunately, the page on the reverse side was a bit lumpy, so I ended-up with a half-way image. I solved that by coloring in the image using a Black Sharpie.
I used my black Project Life Pen to add black details to my stencil images. I also came in with blank paint and added some more diamond stenciling and then stamped with trios of circles.
I realized as i was drafting this post that I should have outlined the sentiment sticker from Dylusions Back Chat Stickers for a bit more contrast ... that's the joy of art journaling is that a page may never be quite done.
Today I'm creating with the fun little box of Coffee Stickers from The Ink Pad.
I love how the box contains a wide variety of coffee images together with coffee bean and plant images as well.
I love the cute little Bunny Frame Die Cut from Impression Obsession. Today I'm designing at the Ink Pat NYC Blog where I'm pairing it with the new Impression Obsession Slimline Cloudy Sky Stamp.
I die cut the Bunny both from the light kraft cardstock and from the Cloudy Sky Stamped on white cardstock (so that I could inlay the stitched part of the die cut).
Next I trimmed the rest of the Cloudy Sky Stamp to frame my bunny at attached it to a kraft card base.
I die cut the ears and nose from a piece of white cardstock sprayed with Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Spray.
I finished with a scattering of pink bling and a sticker sentiment from Tim Holtz Big Talk Snarky Sticker Tablet ... sarcasm & shenanigans ... what more does a friendship need (okay maybe some really great food).
For my second card, I die cut the Bunny from Light Grey Cardstock.
This time I omitted the stitched circle insert and just backed the opening with the stamped Cloudy Sky.
I snipped the word friends from another one of Tim's Snarky Stickers.
I'm thrilled to be Guest Designing at The Ink Pad Blog today featuring Hero Arts Flower Power Layering Stamp Set, which was one of the stamp set in the Hero Arts early ShopBox Release.
There are four layers for the floral hair ... and another four for the face. For my first card, I only stamped three of the layering stamps for the hair, leaving the background flowers white.
I started with a soft pink for the flower insides.
Next I stamped a brighter pink for the flower centers and highlighted blooms. For the face layers I only inked the lip portion of the face highlight stamp. I used some pink pastel pencil to highlight her cheeks.
The current #staycraftywithhero challenge at the Hero Arts Blog is to create a gift card holder.
I found a super-easy gift card holder template at H Made Boutique made by scoring a 4 1/4" x 11" cardstock base
The card then opens at the top and the Gift Card slides into where you have scored & attached the middle (I used the Hero Arts Rounded Rectangle Infinity Dies for my opening).
I used the coordinating die to cut out my lovely lady.
The background is a brayer roll-off paper from my Gel Press topped with a paper I made by painting a paper bag with Gesso, Watercolor Paint and Salt.
Next I used yellows and orange to create her a sister ... I love the empowering sentiments in this set.
The background for this card was made by brayering acrylic paint on colored cardstock.
Thrilled to be Guest Designing at The Ink Pad NYC today.
I have started following quite a few collage artists on Instagram, and I am particularly transfixed by creations that layer translucent elements.
Inspired by those designers, today I'm making some collage cards using the wonderful collection of Black & White Translucent Flower Stickers.
I started by coloring a few of the smaller stickers using the Karin DecoBrush Markers. I loved how I could the markers almost like paint brushes to blend the colors together on the translucent substrate. I did use my embossing gun to heat set them a bit after a colored to make sure it stayed steadfast. I also loved how the light ink saturation allowed the beauty of these stickers to really shine through.
I used several vintage papers from the LB Deluxe Collage Packs to build my collage with the stickers. I applied some Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide Ink using the Beach Grass Stencil and moving it around to get some random ink on my background.
Next I applied another torn paper from the LB Deluxe Collage Papers and began affixing my flower stickers ... I just love how you can see the text through the flowers.
I finished with a sentiment from Picket Fence Studios Walk, Crawl or Run Stamp set on ivory cardstock and a scattering of ivory gems.
For my next card, I decided to try coloring my flower stickers with Alcohol Ink Markers in monochromatic blues ... they worked well too with more intense colors on the stickers. To add some inky interest to my vintage papers, I used the Picket Fence Studios Wonky Rainbow Stencil turned on its side.
Again I love how you can see the text through the stickers. This time I paired my colored sticker with two that I left just as they come.
This sentiment is from Picket Fence Studios Here is Where I Work ... because you know there are people in your life who would love to know you appreciate them.
Hopefully you're inspired to create collage with translucent elements.
There are so many stickers in this collection, you could make collages for days.
When I saw the fabulous Pepin Vintage Fashion Stickers from The Ink Pad NYC that Lauren used on her Traveler's Notebook, I knew I had to have them to make some cards.
And when I saw the Less is More Challenge was all about Fashion, I knew they would be the perfect centerpiece. The cool thing about these fabulous stickers was all it took was a single sentiment stamp for each to make a complete Fashion Set.
I used sentiments from Echo Park Salon Collection Stamps ... this one in the oh-so-perfect poppy ink. I just love those gloves.
I love how this card is in the Pantone Colors of the Year ... and another great Echo Park Sentiment.
These last two are on some perfectly sized little Paper Source Notecards I had in my stash ... I just love the collar on this one.
And this final lovely Pepin Lady was perfect with this sentiment from Essentials by Ellen Pure Magic.
