Makeover Monday ~ Beyond Quick Birthday Cards

This week's Makeover Monday comes from these Beyond Quick Thank You cards from December 2008.  My square punches are out on the studio table, and I can't stop using them.

 

 

I used my 1 3/8" square punch and my scrap bin and decided to do Beyond Quick Birthday cards because my stash already needs re-stocked.  I punched the Happy Birthday paper first and then searched for coordinating papers in my scrap stash.

 

I had fun adding a scattering of stickers including the googly eyed dog before adding the Happy Birthday! sentiment from Hello Bluebird Party on the Farm (yes sometimes card design comes from whatever stamp is still in the MISTI).

 

 

I couldn't resist pairing the googly-eyed slice of Watermelon with the watermelon paper ... more sticker fun and the same stamped sentiment.

If you need to quickly stock your stash, this simple layout is a quick (and fun) way to do it.

 

Makeover Monday ~ Crayon Emboss Resist

Today's Makeover Monday is a Technique from this card I made in July 2008.

 

I decide to do a re-take on the Crayon Resist Technique ... this time I used a Peacock Feathers Distress Crayon with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Spray for my background with the Taylored Expressions Splattered Embossing Folder (which I realized when I was done sort of has a Corona Virus look, which seemed oddly appropriate).

 

 

I cut my panel into pieces using this week's Just Add Ink Sketch and inked-up my new Simple Strips Meow sentiment together with one of the Cats from the Cattitude set as an ode to my sister's cat Simon. 

 

And since this card is masculine and stamped in black ink (and Simon does indeed believe he is always the "star" (I know, a bit of a stretch for the third one), I'm also linking-up at the #TEMakerChallenge.

 

Makeover Monday - Designer Paper

I did a major clean-out of my studio last week (there's a giveaway on Instagram if you want to check it out) and boxed-up a bunch of paper to take to the local craft exchange store.  I still have a large box of designer paper scraps I need to go through, but for my Makeover Monday card, I wanted to find a design that used a lot of paper scraps ... I chose this Valentine's Day card from February 2011.

 

This card used papers from a single paper collection ... I challenged myself to find papers from my scrap bin that would work together.  I started with a scrap of birthday paper and then found other scraps that would work with it (I made sure they had one or two of the colors and were the same shades of the color family ... in this case the teal and yellow unify across the palette). 

I cut them all into 3/4" strips and then managed to put together three card with the scraps it cut on kraft card bases.

 

 

For the first one, I discovered the first one was the perfect size for these Tim Holtz Snarky Big Talk Stickers.  It was also the perfect opportunity to use some leftover stickers from my stash as embellishments.

 

 

For the next two, I used a large wood mount Happy Birthday sentiment from Stampotique Originals (I just love that size & font) and more leftover stickers (these were from an Easter set).  These cards are just so fun and easy to put together.

 

 

And yep, more stickers.  When I assemble my cards, I line of the paper at the bottom and just let it hang over the top of the card.  Then when I"m all done, I just take my scissors and trim along the fold.  That makes it super easy to assemble.

Makeover Monday - Special Delivery

Today's Makeover Monday was inspired by this card from the My Sweet Petunia & My Favorite Things Blog Hop in January 2019.

 

I used the same My Favorite Things Lots of Hearts and Lots of Hearts Outlines in different colors to coordinate them to the Gel Press Print that I chose for my background.

 

 

Rather than a solid paper for the border, I chose a coordinating glitter paper for a bit of sparkle.  This is the perfect card to send some love across the miles, which I've been doing a lot of lately ... have you been mailing your cards?

Makeover Monday - Christmas Paper Scraps

When I made these Birthday cards on Saturday, I realized just how many paper scraps I had ... so I decided to do another paper scrap card for Makeover Monday.  I took my inspiration from this holiday card from September 2011.

 

I used the same Top Note Die with scraps focusing on my blues and greens.

 

Instead of a circle sentiment, I used a few stickers I had on my studio table and used a sticker sentiment.  I finished with some silver holiday trim.  I feel like that cardinal is going to dive bomb the cardinal and steel his cute little stocking cap.

 

Makeover Monday - Carpe Caffeine

This week's Makeover Monday is for the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Card Hop and is inspired by this Coffee Card from March 2019.

 

I had a piece of recycled die cut coffee box left over from this card, so I used it at my card base ... since the images were horizontal, I flipped the sketch.

 

I used a different coffee pot from the same Essentials by Ellen A Breve Note Set and a sentiment from Essentials by Ellen Handful Stamp set.  I finished with a scattering of royal blue bling.

 

 

Also with my recycled packaging, I'm joining the Simon Says Recycle Challenge and Little Red Wagon Challenge who is also Recycling.

Makeover Monday ~ Brave Spirit

Today's Makeover Monday celebrates the graduates.  I chose this Reverse Confetti Graduation card from April 2019 to makeover.

 

 

 

I was asked if I could give the design a feminine twist and create it in different school colors.  I chose to use the same three sentiment stamps from Reverse Confetti My Tribe and Congratulations.  I added some Daisies and used some Sari Ribbon for my Mortar Board Hat using this Video.

Makeover Monday - Spring

I thought it would be fun to go back to April 2001 for this week's Makeover Monday.  It was fun to look through that entire month of cardmaking and reflect on my cardmaking style at that time.  I loved BasicGrey and used lots of patterned paper in my designs ... the card I chose was one I made for a BasicGrey Challenge featuring their Euphoria Collection.

It also reminded me that pretty much my entire stamp collection in the beginning was Hero Arts ... loved that Hydrangea.

 

I decided to keep the layout and the floral theme.  I had fun picking out my papers to layer.  I stuck with pink, but paired it with teal instead of purple.

 

I initially stamped a different hydrangea, but didn't love it ... so since I have commented on several Facebook posts lately that I wished I had their seed packages to create with when they finished planting their garden, I cut out two seed packets for my focal image.

I used Heidi Swapp Art Walk Collection Photo Corners and Quotes for my sentiment and corner accents.  I finished with a tiny pink butterfly sticker on one of the seed packets.

I couldn't resist using the leftover papers to make a card for the Paper Anthology Tic Tac Toe Challenge.

 

I went diagonal from top left to bottom right ... flowers (on the paper and as embellishment); the papers are more than a year old in my stash ... and I finished with some Eyelet Outlet Bling.

 

I adore the Super-Sized Thank You set from Jaded Blossom ... so many perfect stamped in one set.  The big bold black is perfection with all the patterns.

Makeover Monday - Love My Tribe

I went back to March of 2019 for today's Makeover Monday ... when I was in a different kind of quarantine with our entire first floor (which included my studio) being repaired after being flooded by a broken pipe in our wall that adjoins the trash room in our Condominium Building.

I am very grateful that this quarantine leaves me alone in my craft room to play.  Here's my card from March 2019.

 

I swapped the grey solid for grey patterned paper from Reverse Confetti Pattern Play since I'm still going to join the Stock Your Stash Easter Challenge.

 

I swapped the pink and aqua, since that is what I had left in my stash.  I intended to stamp the sentiment in black directly on the patterned paper, but underestimated the height of those bunny tails and my MISTI wouldn't close, so I went with bright pink on a strip of white cardstock from the same Reverse Confetti My Tribe Stamp Set.

 

I just love those fuzzy little bunny tails.

 

Makeover Monday - My Happy Face

This week's Makeover Monday is this baby card that I stumbled upon from September 2011.

 

 

I kept the layout, the use of designer paper strips, the square shape, and a three color palette, but changed the theme to incorporate Taylored Expressions Grouchy Grumplings 2  This card is for all the women who have been told to SMILE MORE at work ... my serious thinking, working face usually isn't a smiley face.

 

 

I love that a found the perfect use for that scrap of yellow Therm-o-Web flocked paper leftover from this card.  The color palette is from Just Us Girls Challenge.
