This week's SCS Inspiration Challenge was suggested by Holly (Toy) who said the fabulous designs at Rooms by Zoya B made her "squeal" (you've got check out her gorgeous inspired Nautical Birthday card). 

Unfortunately, I needed another sympathy card this week for a co-worker who lost his mother, but thankfully this beautiful Baudard Rug was the perfect inspiration I needed.  The color palette and floral design reminded me of one of my favorite paper collections ... Queen Bee by Pink Paislee ... which i think is perfect for sympathy card designs. 

I used this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch and a sentiment from JustRite's Thinking of You Borders and Centers (a great sympathy set).

I used a clear Pink Paislee Queen Bee border sticker along the top (you can see the flourish under the knot of the ribbon), but it didn't have quite the contrast I was hoping for against the darker background paper, so I added a wrap of sheer yellow ribbon.  I finished with some Memory Box adhesive Daffodil pearls at the corners.

I have always been a collector of quotes, and would guess that more than half of the stamps I own are sentiment stamps.  However, there are so many quotes I'd love to have in a rubber stamp, but they aren't available.  With the JustRite Times New Roman Lower Case Font Set, I was able to create my own custom stamp featuring some of my favorite quotes.

For the first card I used the set's 25 point font for a favorite quote by e. e. cummings, and I loved that there were enough letters in the set to complete the entire quote.  The papers are Basic Grey's Lemonade Collection  and the Sketch is CPS # 133.  I wrapped the border punched strips with 4 ply linen thread.

 

The second card features the 95 and 50 point fontsand a quote by Christian Morgenstern.  I loved how the stamp block allowed me to use my larger ink pads to ink up the different words.

 

The teal map paper on the background and the house is from DCWV Downtown Loft collection.  I used the Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes embossing folder to add a texture to my little house.

JustRite Sympathy Cards

I've always been intrigued by the JustRite stamping system, but had never added any to my collection ... until now.  The generous folks at JustRite asked the Caardvarks Crew if wewould like to try out some of their new designs ... and of course I jumped at the chance.  These cards are made with the Thinking Of You Borders & Centers (2 1/4" x 3 1/16").

I was always afraid JustRitestamps would be too tiny and futzy to work with easily.  I can honestly say, my fears were completely unwarranted.  Some of the things I love about these stamps:

• The solid wood stamping base has a very nice ridge that fits my fingers perfectly.
• Some of the stamps combine both an image and a sentiment for quick, easy card designs.
• The easy and secure way the stamps affix to the base with an interlocking ridged design.  They are easy to remove and clean as well.

• That I can interchange 6 different borders with 6 different images to create a fantastic variety of stamped designs.

My first card uses Get Sketchy Sketch #5 and some very neglected Wild Saffron papers by K&Company (just typing that made me salivate a bit as I remembered the fantastic Chocolate Orange Saffron Gelato I had last week at Paciugo on our sisters' weekend trip ... so very good)

 

My overlay is vellum embossed with the Cuttlebug Stylized Flowers.  I then highlighted the embossed surfaces with a gold oil pastel crayon for a bit more contrast.  The leaves on the JustRite frame were colored with a green sparkle pen.  I loved how the stamp fit perfectly inside my Creative Memories oval cutters.  Here's a close-up of the stamp.

 

Since I was loving the oval shape of the image, I decided to continue that theme for my next card.

 

The image was stamped in Chestnut Roan ink on yellow DP and colored with a white paint pen and sparkle pens to highlight the flower.
