I am thrilled to be Guest Designing for Artistic Outpost on their two new releases today.
The first set is Neverland, which features images from the fairytale land that is home to Peter Pan. The Darling children are also featured with a lovely ATC sized collage of Wendy and a flying illustration of John and Michael. Lots of fun scenes you can create with these adorable kiddos, including an intense conversation between Wendy and Peter. I love all of the wonderful sentiments that are included with the images ... so many possibilities.
My first card features the wonderful city landscape with the flying Darling children. I started with a piece of Basic Grey designer paper that I sponged and sprayed with glimmer mists to look like a deep night sky with clouds and shimmering stars.
Next I stamped the children directly onto the background in Memories India ink and stamped them a second time on a peachy-pink cardstock, and a third & fourth time on the designer paper that would become their pajamas. I detail cut each image, and layered the papers to create my cute flying boys (click through to see a more close-up view).
The city scape was partially stamped twice to cover the entire base of my card. I used colored pencils and markers to shade the buildings. The final step was stamping my sentiment onto yellow cardstock, punching out a circle, and doing lost of sponging with Distress Inks to create my glowing night moon.
The second fabulous set is Haunted Halloween, which is a Victorian inspired collection that includes a vintage witch illustration, a cane-swinging dapper skeleton, and a wonderful haunted home that could be used without the scary subtext. Other stamps include a group of flying bats, a hanging bat, a raven, spider web border, and great sentiments.
I love the amazing Victorian house. The town where I grew up was filled with wonderful homes like these, and this one reminds me of one near my Dad's house we would ride past on our bicycle trek around the block.
I started by stamping the home in Dark Brown ink on yellow designer paper. Next I painted on several colors of Shimmerz glitter paint to give the home a haunted glow. I finished with lots of sponging with Distress Inks in the sky and along the edges.
Would you believe that the orange paper under the house started as this happy, perky orange polka dot paper from We R Memory Keepers 70 & Sunny Collection?
I started by sponging several colors of darker orange distress inks onto the paper, and then spraying it with Ink Potion Number 9 to blend the inks and soften the paper. Next I crumpled, uncrumpled, and crumpled the paper some more until it was sufficiently worn and wrinkled.
I flattened the paper and rubbed my Brushed Cordoroy Distress ink pad over the top to add ink to the raised wrinkles in the paper. Next a crumpled a few more times. and then sponged on some Old Paper Distress ink to add a more subtle highlight to the wrinkled texture. I used strong two sided tape about 1/2" in from each side to adhere the paper, so the edges could be distressed a bit more & the texture of the wrinkles was maintained ... my own faux orange leather look (which works for the Faux Technique Challenge at The Corrosive Challenge Blog)
And make sure you check out the delicious ribbon along the bottom. I adhered a wide piece of strong double sided tape and worked my way from side to side, folding and crumpling the ribbon as I went.
Artistic Outpost has a new department called Outpost Attic Findings. They are featuring some truly vintage style finding kits that include 3 colors of these beautiful ribbons (I'll have more samples later in the week), as well as fun trims. In the kits you will receive 1.5 yards of each color of hand dyed rayon vintage style seam binding (with such wonderful subtle color variations), as well as 2 yards each of vintage style crocheted trim. Also included will be a heaping scoop of vintage mother of pearls buttons, all for $6.99 (This gorgeous orange is from the Bloom & Grow collection).
I finished with one of the sentiments & two stamped spider webs from the set.
I will have more cards using these wonderful sets to show you later this week, but for now, make sure you check out the other Designer Blogs for more great creations using these Artistic Outpost images:
