Good Time to Wine

The colors in this week's Color Throwdown are a really unique combination to me ... and I love them.  That scene looks like something I would combine in my home.

 

 

I searched through my print drawer and found an Alcohol Ink Background that combined purple and red with touches of silver foil.  I added a second print that pulls in that amazing green.

 

 

My inky background is also perfect for the TIME OUT Challenge to Make Your Own Background.

 

 

It reminded me of spilled wine, so that's what I went with inspired by the Fusion Card Challenge. 

 

 

I found a wine bottle shaker sticker in my stash together with a glass.  I added a sentiment from My Favorite Things Good Time to Wine.  I finished with some clear iridescent Pinkfresh Studio drops.

Rainbow Supercalifragilistic

Today I got Happy Mail from The Paper Forest ... the prize from participating in one of their Challenges that included one of their pins (love it) and a card with a hand-written note (the best) ... and the travel theme was perfect since I just had to cancel our upcoming vacation plans.

 

So tonight I had some fun joining the new Challenge Tami she posted today (make sure you're doing everything you can to support the local stores that are closed) ... all about RAINBOWS.  I decided to create a Rainbow using circles punched from my collection of Gel Press Prints using the sketch from the TGIF Challenges.

 

I started with a card base of black & white striped paper from Paper Smooches Half Moon Collection ... then I played with the circles.  After I had them all positioned, I added some enamel dots in coordinating colors.

 

I wanted to send it as a card of encouragement, so I added a sentiment from CAS-ual Fridays Supercalifragilistic.

Alcohol Ink Play

As I often do this time of year, I've been looking back at what I experienced in 2019 ... and thinking about the experiences I want to have in 2020.  What I realized this morning is that I really love my Art Camp with Lauren each year ... just creating for the sake of creating with no end project in mind.  I don't do that enough the rest of the year ... so on to the list of 2020 experiences that goes ... more playing with art supplies just for the sake of experimenting and creating.

 

When I saw the sketch at the Paper Craft Crew Challenge, that background immediately reminded me of how long it had been since I played with alcohol inks.  I grabbed several colors and a piece of shiny paper from my stash (I honestly don't know what kind of paper it is, only that it had a resistant surface).  I just started dropping inks (even different brands, which had different concentrations of pigment) and watching what they did.  Then I added some blending solution to check out that effect ... then I mixed it up with a little yellow.  It was so meditative and fun.

 

I decided to trim it down to a 4" x whatever" long card (there was a poll on Facebook this week about what you call this card size ... I usually call it an #10 for the envelope size).  I didn't have two oval sizes that worked for the sketch, so I trimmed down my inside oval to work with the sentiment from Supercalifragalistic by CAS-ual Fridays (one of my favorite stamp sets).

 

For the snowflake embellishment I used a 3-D butterfly sticker and then added several colors and sizes of sequins.  I really love how this one turned out ... which is evidence that more play is certainly needed in 2020.

Therm-o-Web Rainbow

Therm-o-Web is having a Rainbow Challenge for World Card Making Day ... I'd love to win their entire collection of transfer sheets.

I took a page from the Jennifer Maguire Playbook and made a rainbow with scraps I had in my stash from Foil-a-palooza 2018.

 

Since I needed a card for Mail-it-Monday, I chose a favorite sentiment from CAS-ual Fridays Supercalifragilistic (and it's on sale) for their World Card Making Day Challenge.  Hopefully the rainbow of colors will brighten her day.

 

 

Supercalifragilistic

I used one of my favorite Cancer stamps from CAS-ual Fridays together with the Sketch Challenge at CAS-ual Fridays Challenge Blog.

 

I stamped it in Pink Ink and then added a Tim Holtz Hashtag sentiment below it.  I used two scraps of pink-ish paper from my stash and some vintage blooms for the embellishments.

The Library Challenge ~ Oscar

I love playing along with The Library Challenge ... I love books ... I love creating cards inspired by books.  The Challenge is to create a card inspired by The Cover, The Title, or The Story of the book.

When I stumbled across this gorgeous book cover for Oscar by Mauricio Segura, I e-mailed the challenge to see if they ever take suggestions ... turns out they do, and I'm joining the challenge this week as a Guest Designer.

I loved the composition of this book cover ... the bright colors and how they overlapped and contrasted with the bold black text. 

I immediately thought of creating with Distress Oxide Inks (Abandoned Coral, Squeezed Lemonade & Twisted Citron).  I looked for a solid image like the piano, but instead settled on bold solid words from Cas-ual Fridays Bomb Diggity Stamp Set.  I flipped the coral word upside down like the piano and overlapped the yellow.  My MISTI makes getting those solid colors stamped so easy.

 

Next I added black bold sentiments where the title, authors name, and translator information are located on the cover.  I finished with a Tim Holtz #hashtag to turn this into a birthday card.

Supercalifragilistic

A friend who has been battling cancer this last year mentioned recently that she finally felt like She Was Back ... so that was the Welcome Back that I was thinking about when I saw the Inspiration Photo at the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge.

I incorporated the contrast of black with the bold colors and large sentiment from CAS-ual Fridays Supercalifragilistic into my design.

I die cut the To Go Cup Fri-Dies Coffee Cup from a Tide Pool Foiled cardstock tag that someone left on the trade table at Junkie fest (you know I wasn't leaving that behind).  I die cut the lid from a blank piece on the tag.  I decorated the sleeve with a stamp from CAS-ual Fridays Beanstalks (which has apparently been discontinued).

I also took my inspiration from the Calling All Sistahs Challenge at CAS-ual Fridays (because seriously, who couldn't use a little encouragement).  The scalloped pattern of the embossing paste reminded me of the image & the Tide Pool Foil looks like a rainbow.

This picture shows the gorgeous opalescent rainbow a bit better.

Movie Night?

Today I'm using Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape & Brads for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch!

 

I used two colors (and widths) of Glitter Washi Tape to create the top portion of my card and then added some Film Strip Ribbon between the sections.

 

 

I used four different movie-themed brads matted on black & silver circles.  The "Movie Night?" sentiment was printed, and the purple stamped sentiment is from CAS-ual Fridays Coffee Talk.

 

Do you have a favorite movie snack?  I love Milk Duds with my warm Popcorn.

MISTI Creative Corners

SplitcoastStampers is featuring the MISTI Creative Corners in today's newsletter.  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to receive and test this great new product ... and share my review.

I won't lie ... I've never been much of a a precision stamper.  I just pretty much just eyeball everything and move on.  However, that also means that historically I have avoided techniques that required precision because after throwing away 3 or 4 tries, I'm usually done.  

So the first thing I wanted to try was shadowing a sentiment.  I love off-setting die cuts, so I wanted to see if I could do the same with stamping.  I chose a big bold sentiment from CAS-ual Friday's Bravo and Emerald Envy and Lemon Lime Ink.  The creative corners make it super-easy to move your paper just the right amount to get the shadow you're hoping for (and being able to stamp it multiple times with the MISTI meant I got perfect coverage).

I love how it turned out.  I finished by adding a fun Thumbs-Up from Impression Obsession's Hand Set Die Cuts.

I was feeling pretty confident at this point, so I moved on to layered stamping using the new Layering Poppy from Hero Arts and the Coordinating Ink Cubes.  The Creative Corners made it easy to stamp off the edge of my card.

I used this week's CAS(e) This Sketch ... and I couldn't be more thrilled with the end result ... they almost look real.

High Five

This week at the TGIF Challenges you're supposed to find inspiration from the May Challenge Cards. 

 

 I loved this birthday card by Holly.

I incorporated most of the elements but changed-it-up to be a Congratulations card using new Bravo stamps from CAS-ual Fridays.

I used some awesome copper glitter washi tape and combined it with some Champagne Bling & copper sequins.
