For my next day of Washington DC exploration, I headed out to see the Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin.
Unfortunately, it was too blustery and cold to make the full walk, but I did see some beautiful blooms.
I decided my next stop needed to be somewhere inside with a bit of warmth to thaw out. I visited the National Museum of Asian Art to take in the sights.
Next, I walked across the gardens to see the National Museum of African Art where there was a fascinating Exhibit by Ayana V Jackson where both the costumes themselves and photos of her wearing the costumes were on display.
Here is the photo.
I also loved seeing another piece of El Anatsui (I saw my first in Des Moines, Iowa and a second on display traveling to Kansas City with my Sister). I loved this detail on the side.
I finished my day at the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art. I particularly loved the Woven Histories: Textiles and Modern Abstraction Exhibit.
I loved how both the negative and positive of this jacket were displayed, so you could see the overall pattern of the textile.
I also appreciated all of the wonderful combination of textures.
I also appreciated all of the wonderful contemporary art in this building, including an exhibit of Rothko’s works on paper (apparently this museum has the largest Rothko collection of works). It’s always fascinating to me to see an artist’s style progress and change over time (especially as I think about my own artistic journey).
We ended our day at ChiKo for a wonderful Kitchen Counter Prix Fix meal that allowed us to try so many different dishes. This was just the appetizer course for one person.
Another fun day in Washington DC.
