My husband and I are enjoying a little early Spring getaway trip to Washington DC.
I stumbled upon an art show in the airport concourse featuring art by employees of the Minneapolis Airport.
On our first day, we boarded the Circulator Bus hoping we could see the Cherry Blossoms. Unfortunately, due to the traffic around the Tidal Pool, the bus modified it’s route, so instead we ventured to the American Indian Art Museum.
I loved the modern art exhibit by Robert Houle entitled Red is Beautiful, the name of this piece.
I love the combination of colors and shapes recounting his experiences in Canada.
Next stop was my favorite Washington DC Museum, the Hirschhorn … but unfortunately their new exhibits were slated to open next week, so there was only one exhibit we had not already seen from our visit 5 years ago - Jessica Diamond’s Wheel of Life.
Next we headed to the National Gallery of Art, where I enjoyed the Dorothea Lange photography exhibit.
This image was a family from Joplin, Missouri (near where I grew up) hitchhiking westward.
I also appreciated pieces by other artists.
I also loved Monet’s Japanese Footbridge.
We ended our day at Oyster Happy Hour at the Old Ebbitt Grill (I slurped down my oysters so quickly I forgot to photograph them). I did remember to photograph the house-made pasta … so good.
Our trip got off to a great start.
