I'm always a little sad when a month-long event draws to a close. I supposed that means I should develop my own prompts and continue creating a gel print each day. Here are some more from #birgitkoopsengelprintingchallenge.
From the tool box - I grabbed a screw driver and used the handle together with black and iridescent copper paint to make some cool unexpected prints.
Next was fabric. I printed on a piece of muslin and picked-up the texture from the muslin fabric with some paper prints. I used the Rectangle Motif Mask from the Klimt Collection by Elizabeth St. Hilaire for Joggles. I really loved how that color combination turned out when I layered prints.
Our next tool was Bubble Wrap. I had some paint covered wrap in my stash from a previous print, so I used some packing tape to remove the paint (bottom right attached to white cardstock). Then I re-used the bubble wrap to pull some more prints. This reminded me to print on colored paper more.
Next-up was card board. Our Condominium is near the building's trash room, so I did some dumpster diving in the cardboard recycling dumpster to find a piece that would give me a great textured print. Love the colors on this one too.
After that came Straws. I thought of lots of possibilities, but ultimately knotted two plastic flexible straws and used the creation to stamp into the paint. I loved how the marks from the flexible parts of the straws showed-up in the print.
Next challenge was paper. I initially tried using torn paper as masks, but ended-up with a color layering mess. So my next attempt was to wad-up a piece of typing paper and press it into the paint. I liked this effect a lot more. I made one print on a piece of lined elementary school writing paper that I found at the Create/Exchange (if you're local, an awesome place to trade-in and find fun art products).
Next we played with a found object. This time I went dumpster diving in the recycle bin and found this cup-holder. I love how this month's prints have really taught me to look differently at possible artistic tools for creating prints.
And today's theme was to use a Mask. I had to look-up the difference between stencils and masks to make sure I was using the right thing ... and then I think I didn't after all (should have used the cut-out leaf as a mask vs. the inside). Oh well, I like it any way.
So I did a do-over with an actual Mask and a different combination of Distress Oxide Inks. This Tattered Angels Glimmer Screen is probably one of the oldest masks in my collection (I had their entire collection of Glimmer Sprays).
I hope you've been enjoying my Gel Printing adventure this month.
