This week's Wanderlust lesson by Mary Beth Shaw of StencilGirl was our final on the subject of Serendipity.
MaryBeth's project didn't include any text (other than some covered journaling) or focal images. It just focused on the Serendipitous process of creating art.
She did some creating with bleeding tissue paper and with napkins (but I didn't have any of either), so I moved on to the next sub-project of creating tiny collages. She had an entire box of pieces to work with ... I did not. So I went through my studio and created a box by tearing out magazine images, gathering-up the leftover bits from our prior pages, and working with my Gel Press prints.
Creating these tiny collages was actually a very relaxing process, and one I will continue to have little bits of art to incorporate into pages. I finished them with stitching stickers from Pretty Little Studio.
I started with pages from Alice in Wonderland and a page of sheet music, as well as a few of the leftover ephemera pieces from a prior lesson on pages painted with Gesso in my Art Journal.
Since MaryBeth used a three-color palette of Fresco Finish Paints from PaperArtsy, I did the same - I got mine from The Ink Pag NYC. She also showed us that if we use book pages as our palettes, then when those dry they can become artsy items for future pages (I've always used paper plates that I throw away ... ).
I used a small spatula (rather than a paint brush) to apply my paint. When it had dried, I went back in with some stencils and ink.
The final touch was to add four of my mini-collages to my page accented with some Distress Crayons. I love how they almost blend into my page.
Once again, really enjoying the things I'm learning in these classes ... and love how I was able to build on what I have learned with this design.
