I have admired Acrylic Paint Pouring for some time now, and tonight I got to take a class at the local Artist Collective The Hive Collective (in my neighborhood ... how fun is that) and try it myself. The class was taught by the talented and engaging Mega of Mega Good Vibes Art.
We started by learning to do a Clean Pour ... where you pour each color separately on your canvas ... she was creating a rainbow.
I chose to work with Red, Pink (Red & White Paint mixed) and White for my first canvas.
Next we used a large Popsicle Stick to squeegee the paint so we created layers.
Then the magic began ... the tipping and flowing.
There is oil in the paint that causes the bubbles and separation. Then the final step is flicking with alcohol which works similar to flicking water on Distress Ink to create spots where the top layer of color separates revealing the colors below.
Our second canvas was a Dirty Pour ... where you layer all of your paints in a single cup and then pour them on together. Mega continued with her fabulous rainbow theme.
This time I used the same three colors, but also added metallic silver paint to the mix.
For my final canvas, I used the same four colors, but did another clean pour with lots more thinner stripes of paint (should have remembered to photograph before I started tipping, but my hands were pretty paint-covered ... this is a glove-wearing-craft for sure).
We left them to dry and get to pick them up next week. I can't wait to hang them in my studio. She's also going to let me have my "paint skin" from the bottom of one of my pours, and I can't wait to play with that. Mega uses the skins to make gorgeous pendants.
If you every have the chance to pour paint ... go for it. It is super addictively fun.
Those look awesome! How fun. Thanks for sharing.
