A new Fabric Design Showroom called DELVE-MIY opened a block from my house ... so you know I had to check it out. I was excited to see they had classes, so I signed-up for one called Art Weave.
This was the sample for the class.
I chose to go a bit more abstract with my design. I chose a fabric called Color Wash for my canvas *picture* and a bright fuchsia/red for my background fabric.
I also decided to randomly tear the width of my fabric strips & to rotate one of my pieces to create a more abstract design (FYI - tearing fabric is therapeutic). You can see one piece has more yellow at the top right while the other has the yellow at the bottom left.
After weaving it all together (and removing a few strips so some of the background showed through, this is what I had.
The next fun part was stapling the fabric to the canvas (which was already covered with my base fabric). Here's my finished piece
Learned a few things I would do different next time (rather than pull out strips, I would just keep the weaving pattern consistent and spread them apart more).
Here I am ironing my fabric with my classmates (there are lots of pictures on their Facebook page)
I think it's going to morph into some sort of mixed media piece, but I haven't decided yet. I purchased another scrap of the fabric so I could play.
In a few weeks I take another glass class. One of my goals for the year is to get involved in as many local art events/classes as I can (especially since so many are just a few blocks from my home).
that is soooooooooooooo cool!!! i love that you take classes in all different media... bound to bring new insights to your papercrafts, as well! <3
