We took a little road trip to see family and then spent a few days exploring Nashville. We stayed downtown at the Downtown Hilton, which was the perfect location for exploring on foot.
When we started researching our trip, we discovered they have a full-scale reproduction of the Parthenon in Centennial Park. It was a gorgeous day when we arrived, so we spent the afternoon exploring the park before heading to our hotel. I loved reading about all of the history of the building,k as well as the amazing statue of Athena inside the Parthenon. That's the goddess Nike in her hand getting ready to bestow a golden crown.
The next morning, we headed to The Frist Museum. It was originally a stunning Art Deco Post Office that was lovingly converted to museum space. There were no pictures allowed, but here is one I found online of the beautiful lobby. We thought the exhibit of Early Soviet Film and Photography was very powerful.
Next stop was the Tennessee State Museum, a free exhibit of Tennessee history. I stopped to hang-out with Chet Atkins along the way (you know I love public art).
Lots to see in this free museum ... definitely worth a stop. There was even a bench made by Davy Crockett.
At the advice of the women in the Frist gift shop, we went to Acme Feed & Seed for supper and some live music. It was crazy busy, but we were able to get two seats at the bar, where the bartender took good care of us for the evening. We tried some fried green tomatoes that were topped with Pimento Cheese.
We started the next day at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. If you go there, make sure you allow several hours ... there is so much to see. I'm always fascinated by the clothes ... these belonged to Jack White & Loretta Lynn.
We also took the tour to RCA Studio B, where Elvis recorded over 260 songs. Hearing one of his songs play inside that room was pretty magical.
We also stopped by Hatch Show Print, which is in the same building as the Museum.
We had a great time in Nashville. I would certainly recommend a visit.
