I took a long weekend to Kansas City to hang out with one of my favorite people ... my sister. We had the warmest weather I've ever experienced in December and enjoyed lots of shopping, eating, and laughing (but not so much picture taking). Here's one picture of us after we enjoyed Sunday brunch with a view of the city.
When I got back into town, I was able to pick-up my finished pieces from a Fused Glass Class I took a few weeks ago from the talented Erin Fitzgerald of Chicken Scratch Studio. It was so fun. I liked it so much, I signed-up for another 8 week fused glass class starting in 2016 at The Ceramic Center.
Erin provided us with all the tools we needed as well as a bag of glass. She also had lots of other glass pieces we could incorporate, which allowed us to try lots of techniques. She also included a color technique guide in case we want to buy our own kilns in the future.
We started with a trial pendant that she tack-fired while we were in class (so we could get a peek at the finished product). I love the tack fired texture the most, because I'm all about texture ... and the design stays truer to the original form.
Here's a picture of our tack-fired pieces still hot int he kiln ... mine is the blue & white at the top left.
The hardest part for me was cutting straight ... which really only mattered when I was trying to create a set of earrings. Here I am hard at work.
Here are my pieces when I was done.
And here's what they look like after their time in the kiln (and with bales attached).
If you ever have the opportunity to take a class from Erin, I would jump on it ... it was worth every penny and so much fun.
Thanks so much for this awesome post Steph! I'm working on setting up an Andy warhol pop art themed class at the Museum in the spring! Hope to see you there! enjoy your time at the ceramic center!

Your fused glass turned out great! I was surprised to see the colors, textures and shapes change after firing. Didn't think of that prior. Seems like a really fun class. Terrific pic of you and sis! :)
