I learned the lyrics to New York, New York in sixth grade, and can still remember all of the words (together with Oklahoma! & the Missouri Waltz ... why-oh-why are those the things that choose to remain forever lodged in my memory ... oh yeah, and I can sing the names of all fifty state in alphabetical order).
Since then, New York has become one of my favorite places to visit ... especially when the adventure includes my dear friend Lauren ... so when I saw this great Subway Art from Empirical Style (this week's SCS Inspiration Site), I couldn't resist making a New York themed design.
The first step was to create a worn brick wall. I inked my brick embossing folder with white ink and empressed it into red Core'dinations textured cardstock. Next I added a bit of sanding and followed with some Mahogany Distress ink until I got the variation in color I was looking for ... perfect for the Embossing! Challenge at Frosted Designs & the Red Challenge at Moving Along with the Times.
I stamped Penny Black's New York Cling stamp in India ink on watercolor paper. I used a variety of water color pencils to scribble over the image, blending each color with water as I went along for an abstract art graffiti sort of feel.
I finished with a few stickers in the top right corner of the image to evoke a bit more of the subway sign, an artistic fortune cookie sticker, and a spray of Old Lace Glimmer Mist for a bit of shimmer.
I hope you find inspiration.
Great card!! Love the watercolor pencils and the brick embossing!!!
Thanks for joining us this week at Frosted Designs!!

Awesome card. I The coloring is perfect match for the pretty stamp.
I love the sentiment and actually really like MC Escher. At high school I was addicted to his book.
