This week's SCS Inspiration Challenge comes from the Plaid Pony Vintage, a small independent company selling vintage clothing, accessories & housewares, primarily from the 1950's to the 1980's ... such a fun walk down memory lane for me.
I chose this W & R Berries Bald is Beautiful Figurine to inspire my design. The goofy little guy reminded me of a fun stamp I received as a gift from my sister (who also has her own blog Colors That End in Urple where she talks about knitting, cooking, and life in general ... she never ceases to make me laugh) ... Melvin from Art Impressions.
We grew-up in a family that was filled with jokes and laughter. If you weren't coming up with something funny to say, odds are you were going to risk being the focus of someone else's jokes. You had to be quick on your feet & have thick skin to survive.
So this River City Rubber sentiment seemed perfect when you come from a "pull my finger" type-of-humor family. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure my Grandpa had me pull his finger more than once when I was young.
Melvin just looked like he would wear plaid pants, so I paper pieced his pants & shirt from DP scraps. I used grey and silver pencils to color his shoes and hair. The background was embossed with the Tim Holtz Dot Matrix embossing folder & the sketch is this week's 2 Sketches 4 You using Basic Grey Origins papers.
I hope you enjoy tripping down memory lane at Plaid Pony Designs and find some inspiration.
i LOVE it! better than i could've imagined! and hey, thanks for the shout-out! <3
