I had to laugh a bit when I saw the July theme at the Gingersnap Challenge Blog was Heat ... I'm not a big fan of heat. I like cool autumn mornings and breezy spring evenings ... I even like cold snowy days. But I don't like to sweat, or get sunburned, or get bitten by the millions of summer bugs who seem to think my pale skin is a seasonal delicacy.
When I looked through my stamp collection, I realized my disdain of heat had spilled over into my art supplies as well. I've got lots of snowflakes, spring flowers, and autumn leaves ... but very few swim suits, sandy beaches, or blazing sunshine. So, I had to get a bit creative.
Today's Spicy Supply Challenge is Markers. I've yet to join the Copic bandwagon (even though I stare longingly at the beautifully colored images I see in the blogosphere), so I had to resort to my trusty stash of Marvy Brush Markers. When I first started stamping many years ago, these were some of the first supplies I purchased (remember watching Dee Gruenig work her marker magic on Carol Duval??). I often used the markers to color directly on my rubber stamps, however, for the past few years, the markers have been rather neglected on their shelf, so it was fun to revisit the technique.
I colored my Stampotique Global Warming? stamp with black, purple, brown, and orange markers. I used markers to color the heart portion of the stamp again, and stamped it on a scrap of designer paper to paper piece. For the background, I inked the Hero Arts Traditional Snowflake with two shades of purple markers and then spritzed lightly with Ink Potion No. 9 before stamping on Memory Box designer paper to get a softer watercolor effect.
As I thought about a sentiment, these song lyrics kept running through my head, so I printed it using 13pt Teletype font and punched with a 1 1/4" circle. I finished with a scalloped border & punched snowflake with an adhesive gem for this week's Sweet Stop Sketch.
PS ~ This card also works for the Christmas in July challenge at the Stampotique Designers Challenge.
