This card uses the May Sketch at the PageMaps blog to make a Spring-themed card (there are some awesome American Crafts goodies up for grabs). I love sketches that use grids of paper (perfect for scraps), and I especially loved how there were scalloped edges on some of the squares (been a very long time since I broke out the decorative scissors to make a card).
I started with the gorgeous new Cappella papers from Basic Grey ... such fabulous colors and designs. I wanted my image to extend beyond the frame like it did in the sketch, so I stamped to Hero Arts Antique Engravings butterflies on a slightly larger piece of the pink DP from the collection. Then I trimmed down the rectangle so the wings overlapped. I then used the same technique to add a thin black mat.
The butterflies were painted with Shimmerz Glitter paint (I also blended a little green with the paint to shade them) and Sakura glitter pen. I finished with a few Zva gems (cut from a larger flourish) and a very old PoemStone acrylic sentiment. A tip for old acrylic embellishments ~ if they have started to curl from age, attach it to the card, and then use a heat gun to soften the curl and re-activate the adhesive ... works like a charm.
PS ~ 30% off Mother's Day sale at the Jacksonbelle Embellishments store all weekend ... go forth & shop.
