I had a request to make a birthday card for a one-year-old little boy who will be celebrating with an Uno-themed birthday party.
I thought for sure I had some stray Uno cards in my ephemera collection, but no such luck ... I had Monopoly, Racko, Bingo ... but no Uno. So plan B was to try to incorporate the look of an Uno card using paper.
I wanted the curved-edge design seen on the back of the cards, as well as the four bright primary colors. I started by cutting a 3 3/4" x 5 1/2" black rectangle.
Next I used scrap paper and cut a 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" rectangle. I cut four equal-sized rectangles from colored cardstock scraps and adhered them to the scrap paper base. Next I cut a curved template for the corners and used it to cut each side, so they would be identical.
Since the red cardstock had a slight bit of texture, and the other colors were plain (that's what you get when you use scraps), I ran the entire piece through the Cuttlebug Asian embossing folder to create a cohesive pattern across the colors. I mounted the entire piece on a 4"x6" white card base to replicate the white border on the playing cards.
I finished with a paper pieced cupcake (very old Michael's $1 stamp) with some sparkly diamond glitter glue on the frosting and a Memory Box Birthday sentiment (tip ... to get even edges on tiny sentiment, I use my word window punch and then trim off the ends).
This card also works for the Queen of Tarts Challenge at the Alice in Wonderland Challenge Blog to incorporate food into your design ... because for me, cake is one of the ultimate food groups.
Just perfect Steff. Love how it all came together.

Oh, that is so great, Stef! Absolutely perfect take on the Uno theme without being completely obvious. Love it! (And I'm with you on the cake food group!)

How fun! My kids would recognize this shape immediately since they play UNO everyday!

HA! LOVE IT!!! i think the embossing after the assembly of the 4 cardstocks is utterly brilliant as well--it does indeed tie the whole thing together and give it an extra helping of visual interest!!!
