He Fixed Things ... that's my Dad.
The May 20th Challenge at the Caardvarks blog is to make a shaped card ... you know, anything other than those oh-so-standard rectangles or squares. Since my dad is so good at fixing things, I thought it would be fun to make my dad a tool-shaped card for Father's Day.
I started with a clip art picture of a saw, which I enlarged to the size I wanted and printed out. I cut out the handle and the blade separately. The handle was then traced twice (once each direction for the front & back of the handle) on wood-grain paper from DCWV The Green Stack. I sponged brown ink on the handles to give it an aged look.
The blade was traced on metallic silver paper. Decorative scissors were used to cut the blade. The card base was also traced using the blade template and is attached to the back. The front handle was attached the saw blade and three screw brads were inserted. Then the back handle was attached to cover up the brads. The finishing touch was Cuttlebug die cut letters from the same wood-grain paper with a bit more sponging.
This challenge is sponsored by Scrapbook News & Review and the winner will receive a free three month subscription. All you have to do is create a *NEW* shaped card and link it up to the Caardvarks blog on or before midnight PST on June 3rd.
I can't wait to see the fun shapes you create.
