I've spent all day working on my invitation order and I'm about 2/3 of the way finished, but of course I am short one piece of paper (1/4th of a sheet of a sheet of paper to be exact), so I need to head to Michael's to keep the colors consistent (I had bought plenty to allow for errors, but that was before the order size doubled). I have tremendous respect for people who can create in bulk ... I'm more of a one-of-a-kind gal, so it's always a challenge for me to make lots of cards exactly the same.
I decided to take a break and try out a relatively new challenge blog, Cinema Saturday. This Saturday's challenge is Memoirs of a Geisha ... although I haven't seen the movie yet, I did enjoy the book, so I thought I would give it a try.
My inspiration came from this photograph from the movie.
I loved the combination of sky blue, red, and pink in her outfit. I also wanted to incorporate a floral design and the stark contrast between her pale skin and red lips.
I found this ivory floral embossed paper in my stash, so to get the shade that I wanted, I rubbed the paper with blue, silver and pink shimmer chalks.
The image by Magenta (this face is one of three on the stamp) is stamped in Palette Noir Black on ivory watercolor paper and clear embossed. While it isn't a Geisha, I thought it captured the feel of her face. I added a little more eyeliner and lashes with a Black Copic Sakura Glitter Pen. Her lips and the flower in her hair were colored with red and pink glitter pens.
I added a 2" wide strip of textured red paper to simulate the sashes on her kimono. I finished with black pearls & a sentiment from Moon Rose Art Stamps because I thought Spirit described the main character.
Gorgeous, Stef! Love that image! Great job with the challenge. :D

Beautiful card Steph!! I love how you did the swirls with the shimmer chalks - what a great idea!!! ANd I love you recreated the look of the kimono with the sash! Beautiful sentiment of "spirit" - it really is such a perfect to describe her determination to find herself - her strength and her courage.
I am so happy that you played along in these weekly challenges!!! Thank you so much for playing!!! Hope you had fun and that your weekend is fabulous so far!
Sending you lots of sunshine!
Sankari :)

Hi Stef,
I love your wonderful card. The embossed paper you have used, along with the chalks, looks exactly like Kimono silk! I can easily imagine it being soft and silky to the touch.
:-)
