I love challenges ... and I particularly love challenges that involve cool prizes. That is why the Caardvarks challenges are some of my favorites. Challenges push me to try new ideas and explore creative techniques. I also learn from the others who submit their work.
Caardvarks posts a new challenge on the 5th and 20th of each month, in addition to some additional quicky challenges throughout the month. The current challenge is to find creative ways to use ribbon on a card.
This card uses rick rack along the bottom and a couple of other fun ribbons that are stapled to cardstock. The card base is from a DCWV box of cards. The image by Great Impressions is colored with Prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits (technique tutorial). Then I colored the image with a Sakura glitter pen to add a little sparkle. The epoxy sticker was mounted on a 7/8" punched circle and attached with glue dots.
Reminisce sells their products in scrap-booking stores around the US, but I'm lucky enough to live within driving distance of their namesake store. I used their Genuine Girl collection for this card. The original owners have sold their retail business to focus on the wholesale side, but they still consult and make sure that all of the Reminisce products are available.
Strips from three coordinating papers were attached to a navy card base. I tied the shiny ribbons around the card and then added small pieces of sheer celery ribbon to the top and bottom. To make the charm, I adhered a scrap of paper to a lightweight coaster and then die cut the flower image using my Cuttlebug. I cut a smaller flower from a different DP and attached a rub-on. The charm was attached using a jump ring and some waxed jewelry cord.
The final card I submitted is made using a paper quilting technique, but I replaced the strips of paper with a variety of coordinating ribbons. I covered 4 1/2" square of cardstock with double-stick tape. I punched a 1 1/4" square of cardstock, covered it with red ribbon, and placed it as a diamond in the center. I then started placing pieces of ribbon by lining them up with the corners of the square. When the cardstock was covered, I trimmed to get even edges. The Outlines sentiment was stamped and matted and then attached with a pop-dot. The finished dimensions of the card is a 5" square.
This fun creation was made by covering a piece of chipboard with red cardstock and then tying various ribbons around it. The chipboard provided the sturdiness I needed to get nice tight knots with the ribbon and rick rack. This Magenta birthday trio was also colored with Prismacolor pencils and I added a little gold stickles for the bling. The sentiment is by Hero Arts.
These are all so great! I submitted ONE yesterday and had a hard time with it!!! I use ribbon ALL the time and for some reason could not get it together... It was the pressure of the challenge!!! hahahahahahaha
I really like the red one with the chipboard and ribbon wrapped into squares. Good luck!
