Sometimes when I begin making a card I have the exact image in my mind of what I want the end result to look like. More often than not, I really have no predetermined vision, and I just let the images, colors and papers I choose lead me. This valentine resulted from the latter of these creative processes.
I knew I wanted to use mytime's sketch challenge that was posted on SCS. I also knew I wanted to use black as an accent color to provide added contrast to the brights and whites. This 'Fall Back on Black' challenge was also posted on SCS Dare to Get Dirty Challenges by Jami.
I rummaged through my stamps for quite a while before deciding on the Hero Arts Heart Filament stamp This tall, thin image worked well with the triple panel layout of the sketch. After choosing the hearts, I decided they needed to be red, so I then went in search of some papers that would coordinate with the red ink. These Flirt designer papers by Memory Box worked perfectly. This package of 50 pieces of colorful 6x6" double-sided cardstock is available at Ellen Hutson's online store. As I began assembling the pieces, it seemed to scream "Valentine", so I added the Hero Arts Valentine's Day sentiment and the epoxy heart sticker, even though it seemed a bit silly to be making a Valentine in August.
Sometimes I direct the artistic process ... and sometimes I just go along for the ride.
