Be Bold in the Dreams

This week at the Corrosive Challenge Blog, the theme is to CASE a design team member.  Since I was a guest designer for them in February, I thought it would be fun to go back and CASE one of my own designs (although now that I read the instructions for the challenge a second time, it appears the intent may be for you to specifically CASE one of the four cards posted this week).

I chose my Rock & Roll themed card I created for the Red, Orange & Yellow Challenge as my Inspiration.

I decided to stay with the Rock & Roll theme as well as the general layout of the card, although I did mix-up my color palette to coordinate with some Rock Star stickers I've had sitting on my work table for weeks just waiting for the right card.  The reflective metallic paper made it a bit challenging to photograph.  I used red glitter paper for my background for all-over sparkle

I added a bit of bling and an Everyday Sparkling Sentiment from Crescendoh to complete the design.

Once Upon a Springtime Fairies

Saturday, I ventured to Iowa City for my first Farmers' Market of the season ... I love wandering through the booths and exploring.  I came home with all sorts of goodies including fresh guacamole, dill cheese curds, bacon wrapped dates, tomatoes, and a beautiful potted begonia.  

I also stopped at Memories on Fifth for a little shopping and found a 12" sheet of framed fairies that was perfect for using up the rest of the papers from my Graphic45 Once Upon a Springtime Collection ... it's also perfect for the Stamp Something Challenge to use Pretty Papers.  

I punched out the fairy from her frame and attached her with foam tape for dimension.  The sentiment is from CatsLife Press.

The next one has another Catslife Press sentiment that I thought was perfect.  I added a bit of sponging to bring out the layers.

The final one uses the Sunshine & Joy sentiment from Impression Obsession & some wired peach ribbon, which works for the Ribbons & Bows Challenge at the Corrosive Challenge Blog.

I just love the color combinations in this collection.  And here's a little bit of spring from my garden ... my hydrangeas are just beginning to bloom.

Let it Sew, Let it Sew, Let it Sew

Yes, we're getting punny at Jingle Belles again this week (hey, what can I say, we're goofy that way) ... this week's prompt is "Let it Sew" ... to incorporate some sort of stitching (machine, hand, or faux) into your design.

In my recent crafty travels, I picked-up the new We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy Tool, so I thought I would give it a try down each side of my main Webster's Pages panel.  

Next I used a thin black marker to "stitch" down each side ... somewhat comforting to know that my faux stitching is just as wonky as my real stitching would be ... looks like investing in the scoring mat might help.

My card was inspired by this card by Scrapflower for the Inspiration Challenge #2 at the The Lily Pad.  I liked the layout, stitching, and label-shaped focal panel.  I was lucky enough to find a gorgeous scrap of Webster's Pages paper in my8 scrapbin that already had a label in the design.

I added a few vintage rub-ons and several wraps of some wonderful Mission Falls Ivory yarn that I picked up on my trip to the Yarn Shop & More in Kansas City last weekend ... I can't wait to try dying the yarn with some of my spray mists ... it has such a wonderful texture.

Misted Bamboo

The theme at the Gingersnap Creations blog this month is the Far East ... and today's Spicy Supplly Challenge is Mists.  I decided to see how my Glimmer Mists would work on Kraft Cardstock ... and I love the results.

I stamped Hero Arts Decorative Bamboo in Versamark on Kraft Cardstock and clear embossed (as I've said before, the bulk pack from Hobby Lobby is my favorite because it has a wonderful slight variation in colors like an old grocery bag).  Next, I sprayed the cardstock with Forest Green Glimmer Mist and let it dry.  I added a very light spray of the same glimmer mist to the background.

I used this week's Corrosive Challenge Blog sketch and some Origami paper for my vertical band.  Hero Arts Asian Doll was stamped using Warm Violet Chalk ink on a lighter kraft carstock.  I paper pieced her Kimono from a scrap of the Glimmer Misted paper.  I added a sentiment from Hero Arts Leaf Prints, a little pink pencil on her cheeks, and a few adhesive gems to adorn my doll.

So break out those mists and sprays and show us your best creation.  You have until May 8, 2011 to link up your art.

Botanical Songbirds Birthday

It's my final week to guest design at the Corrosive Challenge Blog ... and this week's challenge is Distressing.  The ladies at Our Creative Challenge are also providing a De-Stress to Distress Sketch, so I used that for my layout.

I combined beautiful new Botanical papers from Prima with Artistic Outpost's Songbirds stamps.  I distressed the edges of the paper and added some distressing ink too.  I finished my birthday card design with a lovely jeweled flourish.  

A flourish tip - the middle piece of the flourish was going too high into my design, so I nipped through the glue toward the bottom and repositioned the remaining piece of the flourish where I needed it to be.

Magical Super Grover

I am once again Guest Designing with the fabulous group at the Corrosive Challenge Blog (they're looking for a new Design Team if you want to check it out).  The theme for this week's Challenge is Magical Creatures.

I went through my stash looking for fairies, dragons or gnomes ... but instead went with one of my favorite magical creatures from my childhood ... Super Grover Saves the Day by Stampabilities.

 
I stamped Grover with Indian ink and clear embossed (which always helps me stay inside the lines when I color).  I colored him using Prismacolor pencils blended with Odorless Paint Thinner.  I used white pencil to help add some highlights to the image.  Sentiment is from CatsLife Press and is highlighted with some blue adhesive gems.

 

Happy Happy Happy

This week at the Corrosive Challenge Blog they have a fantastic sketch to inspire you (and they're taking applications for new Design Team Members).  I have the pleasure of guest designing with them for the month of February.  The Sketch was perfect for a very special birthday card I needed to make.

 

I found some Basic Grey Scraps in my stash (the floral is from the Sultry collection) and paired them with a scrap of rich green cardstock (this sketch is perfect for using up those scraps).

I finished with a Prima Cream Swirls pearl flourish & sentiment from Outlines Rubber Stamps stamped in Sour Apple Chalk ink & clear embossed.  I finished with an additional pearl for the dot on the exclamation point.

Corrosive Challenge ~ Red, Orange & Yellow

I was lucky enough to to win at the Corrosive Challenge Blog in December, so as a reward, I get to guest design for them during the month of February.

The first challenge is to design a card with Red, Orange & Yellow.  I took my inspiration from the Corrosive Challenge Blog Banner using last week's Sweet Sunday Sketch.

I found some rockin' glittery rub-ons of rock star flames, an electric guitar, & guitar pick.  I combined them with some orange & red DP from K & Company's Que Sera Sera.

I attached the guitar rub-on to yellow cardstock & cut it out, so I could attach it with foam tape for dimension.  I finished with some red adhesive gems & the perfect sentiment from Inkadinkado.

Etsy Inspired Challenge ~ LingGlass

I have had such an awesome time designing for the Etsy Inspired Challenge the last six months ... I am stepping down after this term to pursue some very exciting new adventures in 2011 (stay tuned for upcoming news).  

My final challenge as part of the design team comes from the gorgeous glass creations of LingGlass.  I chose this lovely yellow stained glass pendant to inspire my card.

I also used this week's Corrosive Challenge Blog Sketch together with Queen Bee papers from Pink Paislee and a Sympathy Sentiment from JustRite Designs.  I also added a Queen Bee clear borderlines sticker along the bottom & a few twinkle gems to the flower centers.

One Step at a Time

I am always on the lookout for paper designs that are perfect for masculine cards, and the Natural Collection by DCWV is a recent favorite.  It made it so easy to use this week's CPS sketch for a quick and clean get well card for a young man who is recovering from an auto accident.

This favorite get well sentiment is from Verses.  I attached it with foam tape for a little dimension.  By the way, I just invested in one VERY big roll of foam tape (36 yards) from Overstock.com.  I go through quite a bit, and it was much less expensive to buy it in bulk.

And I just saw this adorable packing tape when I was linking up to the foam tape ... looks like it might be time for another order.

This card also works for the Other than Christmas Challenge at Christmas Stampin' All Year Long and the For the Boys Challenge at the Corrosive Challenge Blog.
