Some 52Q Catch-up

It's been a while since I worked on my 52Q Project, so today I took some time to finish several cards.

Question 10 - Name 5 Movies That Inspire You Creatively?

Question #13 - what was my worst (or best?!) hairstyle experience to date?

This was the haircut that was my transition moving from long, straight hair to the eventual short hair that I still embrace today.  Not a good look.

Question #14 - What is the last good book you read?

I received this book as a Christmas present from my dear friend Bonnie ~ Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  It is a book written in list form, so I could read it in bits and pieces before going to bed.  It made me laugh ... it made me cry ... I loved it.

52Q ~ What was the last brave thing I did?

When I read this week's art journaling question, I immediately thought of the Brian Adreas coat rack that I have hanging in my art studio.  It is one of my most treasured pieces of art, and I read what it has to say every single day.

 

I think the bravest thing any of us can do is tackle each and every day with a positive attitude and a whole lot of moxie.  This fun image is Monstrosity by Whipper Snapper and he is colored with Prismacolor pencils.

52Q ~ Laugh Out Loud

This week's 52Q Mini Art Journal question is ~ what was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?  The answer was very easy for me ... my husband. 

 

This is one of my favorite pictures.  It is not particularly flattering of me, but it never ceases to make me smile.  This was taken 5+ years ago at my company's annual awards banquet.  There are photographers who wander around the event taking photos.  I thought we were posing for a nice formal picture of the two of us ... since my husband was slightly behind me, I had no idea he was making that face until the photos came back. 

It cracks me up, because that was the face I was probably making on the inside.  It had been a very long evening & we were very tired and ready to go home. 

I am blessed to have a husband who makes me laugh out loud every single day.

52Q ~ how do I feel TODAY?

I made my 52Q mini-art journal card yesterday.  I was hanging out at home ... enjoying time with my husband ... creating in my studio ... e-mailing my family ... and feeling very loved.

52Q ~ When I look into my eyes, I see ...

I printed a black and white picture of my eyes and overlayed an American Crafts clear Remarks Fashion Accents 2 sticker and letters from Making Memories Black Shimmer Metro Alpha.

52Q ~ I Believe We All Have Wings

This week's question is Do You Believe In Fairies?  I've never been much of a believer in fairies ... too pragmatic for that.  However the phrase on my card kept running through my head this week as I thought about the question.

 

I don't have any fairies in my stamp collection, so the fairy image  was downloaded from a free coloring book, added the sentiment, and sized it to fit the back of my playing card.  I trimmed it slightly smaller so that the blue of the card could show as a frame.

The image is painted with Iced Lavender and Pink Poinsettia Shimmerz Glitter paint.  After it dried, I went back over the fairy and her wings with Magenta Shimmerz for a bit more definition.  I finished with some tiny glittery gems.

Question 2 ~ Am I Afraid of Change?

Question number two in the 52Q mini art journal challenge is - Am I Afraid of Change? 

I love change ... as long as I feel like I am the one making the change.  If a change is forced upon me, then it can take me a bit longer to come to a place of acceptance ... but I eventually arrive. 

This River City Rubber Works change quote by Ghandi is one of my favorites, and I felt like it described how I feel about change ... it's important to do everything you can in your time on this earth to be the change.  It is stamped on a piece of Basic Grey Periphery designer paper that is highlighted with a sparkle pen.

52Q begins ... a year of questions and answers

In 2008, I loved watching my friend Lauren create her Paper Adventure pages.  I knew I wanted to try something similar to stretch my creativity in 2009, but hadn't found anything that really spoke to me ... until today. 

Emily Falconbridge is going to host a 52 question mini art journal challenge for 2009.  She mentioned that when she hosted a similar challenge in 2007, many of the participants used a deck of playing cards for their palette ... that made a light go on for me.  I like the uniformity of size, the two sides, and dimensions that are small enough not to overwhelm ... and I had the perfect deck of cards just waiting to join the fun.

When we vacationed in Toronto last year, I bought a deck of cards made using art work by Open Studio artists.  I had no idea what I was going to do with the cards ... but I was drawn to the tiny pieces of art.  They will be the perfect palette for my 2009 52Q Art Journal project.

The first question is - What do I wish for this year to bring?  I decided to number and hand-write the questions on the art-print side of the playing card.  I looked through the images and chose one that spoke to me, rather than using the playing cards in any order.

 

On the back, I attached a white piece of Basic Grey designer paper for my canvas.  I looked through my studio for inspiration, and decided to create a collage with word stickers from 7Gypsies to answer my question. 

I didn't pre-plan my design ... I just started attaching words and phrases that mean things to me until the surface was covered.  Then I added lots of silver Class A Peel stickers to fill in any of the blank space and add some sparkle (because I have no doubt that 2009 is going to shine).

 

I love how it turned out and I had so much fun creating it.  I had flash backs to junior high when I would cut out words and pictures from magazines and create collages to hang in my room.

What do you wish for this year to bring?
